Web Hosting

We can manage all the details of hosting any web site or web application we develop. There's no need for you to sweat the details--we will work with you to establish the optimal hosting solution for your needs, be that a Linux, BSD, Solaris, or Microsoft platform.

Please note that projects developed on Microsoft .NET framework must be hosted on a Microsoft operating system, and will also need Microsoft SQL (SQL 2005 or later). Projects developed on the Ruby on Rails platform will also need a specialized Rails capability, which may come at a higher cost. Projects developed on PHP or Java (J2EE) can be hosted on a standard Linux platform with a MySQL database.

Standard Hosting

Standard hosting is perhaps the simplest and least expensive hosting option. However, standard hosting is only adequate for "lower horsepower" web sites, or web sites that do not receive an excessive number of visitors per day (i.e., less than a 1000 visitors per day). With standard hosting, your site will be on a server that hosts several other web sites, which ultimately reduces the overall cost of hosting. The monthly cost for standard hosting ranges from $50 to $200 per month, depending on the web site, its platform (.NET, PHP, Rails), and other needs. Remember, we manage the hosting, monitoring, and maintenance for you. Standard hosting is not available for Java (J2EE) based web sites.

Dedicated Hosting

Dedicated hosting is usually the best option for a "high horsepower" web site, or one which is expected to handled thousands, or even tens of thousands, of visitors per day. These servers may host any OS (usually Windows or Linux, but BSD and Solaris are also possible), and are dedicated to a single web site or application, or a set of web sites under a single client account. The server is typical a prebuilt "economy server", for example, an off-the-shelf dual-core system with 1 to 2 GB of RAM. This is usually more than enough for most needs. For more powerful servers, colocating is necessary. Dedicated hosting may cost anywhere from $200 to $500 per month, depending on the type of server, the operating system, and any additional software.

Colocating

Colocating means hosting one or more custom-built servers in a secure, state of the art data center. This is by far the most expensive option, but the server, or set of servers, can be designed according to your specific needs--even up to a 4-way cluster of 8 core CPUs, with 32 GB memory and terabytes of storage. Only the largest and most resource intensive applications warrant this degree of horsepower, but if your needs do fall into this category, we will work with you to determine the optimal specifications of the server, or servers, and purchase an IBM or HP system according to your preference. The up-front cost for the server hardware may range from $3,000 to $20,000 or more, and hosting typically costs between $500 to $2000 a month per server. As always, we manage the hosting, monitoring, and maintenance for you, all as part of the service.
